Edward T. Affleck Sr. and his son Edward T. Affleck Jr. moved to Toledo, Ohio in 1899. Together they established firm leadership in Toledo's growing production and commerce. They would found and lead several yachting organizations and own some of the finest yachts on Western Lake Erie.

Few of today's mariners realize that the War of 1812, a global conflict that helped define the early United States, began on Western Lake Erie. Trace the voyage of the Cuyahoga Packet, an early American lake carrier, as she left the Maumee River in peacetime and made port a prisoner in wartime and endured the opening shots of the war.
